Schools Skills4life Programme

Skills4life Programme

Skills4Life is a central pillar of Schools4Life. After the heart connection tour (HCT) introduces dance4Life,the subjects and issues around HIV/AIDS, Skills4Life provides young people with more in-depth information and tools, placing HIV and AIDS issues within a SRHR framework.

The aim of Skills4Life is to:
Increase young people’s knowledge about SRHR issues
Help them develop life skills, so that they are apply their acquired knowledge
Focus on how young people can get actively involved in pushing back HIV and AIDS

In Kenya, the life skills component is run in collaboration with the Centre for Study of Adolescents (CSA), using the World Starts With me (WSWM) curricullum developed by World Population Fund.

WSWM is an innovative, PC-based, online curriculum on sexual and reproductive health and rights. WSWM combines IT skills building and creative expression with sexual health and rights education.

WSWM uses experiential learning as the didactic method and follows the principles of three combined approaches: Adolescents’ Development, Behaviour Change and the human rights-based approach.

This combination empowers young people not only to obtain required knowledge, but also to develop appropriate attitudes and learn healthy and responsible behaviour and life skills (communication skills learn how to refuse and negotiate, using health services, purchasing and using condoms and contraceptives).

In addition, young people learn to unfold their creative and IT skills as preparation on modern job opportunities.
